A new baby is an occasion for celebration and wonder.  Every newborn baby is a miracle that you see happening right in front of you.  So many people forget how exquisite a newly born baby is – because the memory fades.  If you’ve got a photographic record, you’ll never forget.

If you want a family photograph or simply a photograph of the newborn, an experienced baby photographer is essential.  Taking pictures of new babies takes time – and you can expect a session to last anything from a couple of hours.  You’ll need to work around the needs of the smallest member of your family – and that’s fine.  Our experience with baby photography means that we will be happy to take a break when feeds and nappy changes are needed.

The best time to capture that magical new baby miracle is during the first three weeks, so booking is important.  However, we know that babies don’t always stick to the schedule and if you contact us we’re always happy to try and flex to meet baby’s schedule.

Tips for the session

• Try to feed baby at least an hour or so before the shoot is due to start.
• Choose a plain one-piece outfit for the baby – or, even better, you can get some fantastic pictures when your baby is free of clothes and ‘poses’ naked.
• If you are planning to be in the picture (or some of them) wear a dark coloured long sleeved top to show baby off best.  Having a couple of spares is useful, just in case there’s an accident.
• Relax – if you’re tense, baby will know right away and may become upset.

Older children

Getting older children to relax takes time – so, don’t expect them to simply stand and grin at the camera.  The best pictures are those of them being natural.

Having a few favourite toys around will help and you can expect the whole session to be a fun event that will create truly memorable and totally unique pictures of your family.
